Time for some Haloween fun. This will save the mess, challenge your artistic side, frustrate you and waste a few minutes of your time. It is fun so give it a try.

frogs eating bugs

I saw this one evening-The toads figured out that if they sat by a light, they could eat lots of moths. They do this every night.
Their tummies are sure full.

I just heard from an old shipmate of mine from 1965 and we were the best of friends for a couple of years. That kind of email brings back floods of memories and most are valid because we tend to remember the good times and not the bad times and we tend to remember things as we want them to be rather that the way they were. The guy in the picture is a 19 year old, still wet behind the ears young sailor off the coast of VietNam on board the USS Princeton LPH-5. We were a helicopter carrier with about 1000 marines set up for fast response combat. Those long ago years seem like they were yesterday. My friend and I are planning to get together in 2010 at the next Princeton reunion in Branson Mo. I bet there will be a lot of old timers there. Gee, I wonder what us young kids will talk about?
Life is interesting and life is great. We just have to keep bending with the wind. GM 08

Just
pondering
a few things. The weather is sure hot, were hitting 105 daily. The yard is cracking and drying up, no need to mow. Washed my truck yesterday, dirty again today. The AC runs constantly, gonna be a big bill next month. Forgot to get water reading, I'll do it tomorrow, maybe. Need to do more maintenance stuff around the house, there's always tomorrow. Don't feel like dancing myself. Grammy not doing well, really concerned. Bill Doc really sick, in my prayers. Nobody swimming in pool, didn't mean to jerk any shorts, sorry if I did. Bird eggs hatched, momma bird busy feeding 2 growing babies. A baby rabbit came to back door, he sure can run fast. Went to garage sales Saturday, didn't buy anything. Price of gasoline is down to $3.57/gal, too hot to go anywhere. Cub may be getting spectacles before school. Tomorrow is another work day, gotta get up at 6am. Wonder where ractoon is right now, I sure did enjoy his blogging during the trip. Still don't have the urge to dance. TTFN

Pool etiquette for beginners: sometimes I think we all need reminding about etiquette. We sometimes forget that our actions do affect others and we take for granted that others do things the way we do. Lets take pool etiquette for example. If we don't have a pool and we want to take a dip, we call a friend or relative to see if we can use their pool. Usually no problem until we forget our etiquette. Usually a slip of the etiquette mode is tolerated for 1 or 2 times, after that, you need reminding that you should treat someone Else's pool like it is theirs and not yours. Here are a few simple etiquette rules to live by: If you didn't bring a towel (shame on you) then don't take one home with you. If you use the pool towels, then please hang them up on the clothes line provided, throwing them on the floor or furniture is not good etiquette and causes the pool owner to have to clean up after you (Shame, Shame). If you use floaters or other floatation devices, then put them back in storage where they probably were because sometimes the wind blows them on the ground or they stop up the filter intake. Again the pool owner has to clean up and put things up properly. Never bring more than 1 guest with you, but only after permission has been given. Always try to get young kids to go to the bathroom before getting into the pool, there's nothing like warm water to get the body to react and little kids sometimes cannot hold it. Remember that after the refreshing dip, you are still wet and sitting on furniture or dripping water in the house is another etiquette buster. Just like when you go camping, always leave the campsites (pool) cleaner than how you found it. Just good etiquette..

HOT! I'm not talking about anyone or anything in particular. I'm talking about the weather. Our temps this week are all triple digits: hitting 100 and 101 degrees F. It feels like a baking oven when you go outside and outside activities are kept to a minimal at least until the sun starts going down. The only salvation for the irrepressible heat is that the humidity is only 35%. East Texas used to be that hot with 95% humidity. Instant sweltering moment. We saw a weather report stating that in July 1939 (2 months before birth of Ayla) that the weather was 107 degreese F. Back then there was no AC, barely a fan and a sparse way of life compared to ours now. I bet Grammy was smiling the whole time carrying Ayla.
Broken finger story: I did break my Rt. middle finger about 6 weeks ago and it has caused me some difficult moments. 1st. I took the brace off to early and re broke it . again I wore the brace for 2 weeks and took it off and re broke it a 3rd time. I will wear it for 6 weeks now. Let me tell you, Driving a vehicle with a broken middle finger will get you all kinds of reactions from people you meet if you use that particular hand to steer with. You get everything from waves to stares to the proverbial 1 finger salute. On a recent trip to a bigger town with the 2 grand kids, I took a drink of soda and accidentally showed my finger to a passing motorist. He took exception to the 1 finger salute and became angry, instant road rage. He tried to stop and turn around to get us but traffic was too great and I was going down the street in the opposite direction. Z asked me what I would do if he caught up with us? I thought about it and realizing my age, health and wisdom, I said I would RAM him, push him down the road for several blocks and then leave. I said, I had more insurance than him and grammy would bail me out of jail. He never did catch us and so none of the contingency plans were needed. Remember if someone salutes you on the road, they might have a broken middle finger--- or not..

Israeli attack on USS Liberty (US Navy ship)

I was on the USS RE Byrd, a Guided Missile Destroyer attached to the 6th fleet when this happened. We locked on our missiles to the attacking planes and was told to stand down. I never understood this until 42 years later. After the Iaralie's broke off the attack, we were sent to guard the ship. I can attest to the ships condition. There were many dead sailors and many wounded. Not being able to defend the USS Liberty during the attack still hurts to this day.The 60's were a mixed up time.

VACATION TIME

7 days down and 3 days to go. Yep, I have been on vacation this last week and did virtually nothing but clear my mind of work. That took 5 days to do because I was getting calls from work to solve problems. Finally I said enough. I Ignored the rest of the calls, I felt obligated to answer and it was very hard to say,"I am on vacation, do not answer the phone, leave me alone". Finally with that concept ringing in my mind, I go to the store for goodies and real food and guess who I run into on aisle 3, MY BOSS, dangit, he asks if I am enjoying my time off and of course, I say YES. He then says, oh by the way, you know that $8000.00 charge for tree removal, what did we remove for all that? I said for him to review the original P.O. and that would answer his question. I made an excuse and got out of the store. Dangit, got caught again- Now 3 days left and I hope no more calls. Saturday night and time for the Collage football games, burgers and no phone calls. I have really had a great time doing nothing of importance. I went to bed rather late (midnight) and slept in until 8am. that sure felt good, I could get used to that. We went to the Indian gaming facilities and had a great time on one of the days, we visited with kids, swam and enjoyed life on other days. Sometimes you just have to do nothing of importance to enjoy a vacation. I sure enjoyed mine.

WOW! It will happen 2 times this century, what I am talking about is the fact that Mars will pass so close to the Earth it will look like there are 2 moons in the night sky on AUGUST 27th. This is a picture of the last time it happened on August 27th, 1843. The date of the next occurrence will be again on August 27th, 2087. I believe the virus e-mail said it is best to view this phenomenon at about 3am. It is truly amazing what we learn from the Internet. I have my camera ready and all charged up, hope I don't sleep through this one, but if I do, there is always the next one.

Cousin Rodney told me this story: He and his new friend Diane were walking around the city lake one evening last week when they happened upon a man in the process of catching a rather large catfish. Rod walked over to the man and commented about the nice catch. The man proceded to tell of the great catch the day before with that fish weighing in at 45 pounds. Rod became impressed and told the man that he was an advanced scout from the Jimmy Houston Fishing Show and that they were hearing reports of the large catfish that were being cought at the city lake. The man procede to show Rodney the line set-up and just exactly how to fish the rig. He also mentioned that there was an underwater creek in the area and it was very necessary to fish the edge of it. Rodney acted as if was very impressed and after continuous referrale to the Jimmy Houston Fishing Show, Rodney told the man he was going to shoot a demo tape. He told the man to wait at the honey spot while he went to get the camera and film and since it was starting to get dark, he needed his lights. Rodney and Diane drove back to the lake about 2am which was 5 hours later, and that man was still waiting for his chance at fame on the Jimmy Houston Fishing Show.

Ouch! Work injury. I tried to remove the tip of my finger on a folding chair, but the E.R. doc saved the day by stitching the injury together . He first scrubbed it down with betadine and then saline, he then decided to deaden the finger with lidocane shot into the big knuckle. That hurt. After a few minutes he started stitching and then shot more lidocane because it still wasn't dead yet. Soon he finished up and they put this big bandage on the finger. As you can see, it wasn't complete because it kept sliding up the finger. So like a skilled maintenance person that I am, I added the DUCT-TAPE. now it is complete.

I Enjoyed the Digeridoo played on Anamnesis blog and that reminded me of something I saw a long time ago. The sitcom Frasier referenced these singers in one of their great episodes. I am refering to the TUVAN THROAT SINGERS of Mongolia. Check out the other videos near the one I referenced. They are strange and yet amazing at the same time. Like the digeridoo, it is a localized skill that is slowly being brought to the world.

Enjoy

"Popcorn, get your free popcorn here." Yep, Puppy and I were working at the Childrens Health Fest sponsored by the hospital. Although the day started out misting rain, it finally cleared around noon. We had a great time and over 400 kids were treated to fun, games, prizes and free screenings. I think we could have had over a thousand if not for the wet weather for 4 previous days. One of the games for the little ones was Stickhorse racing. I watched these three 2 yearolds line up for a race. The lady shouted "GO" and 2 of the kids took off around the course. The 3rd kid just stood there and was saying to her horse, "GO, GO!" She couldnt get her Stickhorse to GO. I died laughing along with everyone else watching the races. Puppy is a pretty good popcorn popper for never having the experience. There was a lot of Popcorn on the ground for the birds to clean up, I dont think they minded. We both noticed that the next day, we were unable to walk very good. Sunday was a great day to just kick back and rest. Anyone want some Popcorn?

Frosty has found him a home and it is with us. We could not give him away to someone who locks him in a cage for traveling and to sleep in and to be put into whenever someone left the house, so Frosty is now Caspers new friend forever. this is the only way I could figure out to show you a clip of Frosty and his buddy Casper.

Tired Easter Puppy.
Boy is he tired, just like his parents. A little blond hurricane came through and brightened up our lives and wore us out. Frosty is exhausted, it seems that the little bunny carried him around for 2 days, chased him, played with him and kept him awake. Casper was just himself, layed back most of the time and then he would dominate Frosty at other times. We survived the 3 nights of freezes and I hope my Peaches survive. I covered the tree with a clear plastic and put a light inside for heat. This will be the first crop in 4 years if this worked. I hope everyone had a good holiday.

Pooper Scooper!!!

Did you know that the little bundle of joy called a puppy, poops every 30 minutes. Yep, he is an eating machine and what goes in must come out. It wasn't so bad when the weather was dry, however we just had a round of storms drop 3 inches of rain and that kept the little bundle of joy inside for 2 days. AAHHHH there he goes again. Come here you little mutt!!!
